Inaccurate District Maps Circulate in Virginia Congressional Race
Doug Ollivant, a Republican candidate for Congress, has posted several inaccurate maps of Virginia’s 7th District during his campaign. These maps, appearing in various videos on social media, erroneously depict the district’s boundaries, extending further south than the actual lines drawn in 2021.
Ollivant is challenging Democratic incumbent Eugene Vindman in a district that includes Fredericksburg, Bowling Green, and Culpeper. Despite his past role as the director for Iraq at the U.S. National Security Council under President George W. Bush, Ollivant is being presented as a political outsider in his campaign.
Among the missteps, at least one incorrect map was promoted as a paid advertisement on Facebook, suggesting a significant investment in the erroneous content. The maps used in these videos reflect district boundaries prior to their redrawing five years ago.
Ollivant will face Pentecostal minister Philip Harding and pastor Ricky Smithers in the Republican primary scheduled for August 4.
