Celebrate Independence Day with the Star Spangled Classic in Athens-Clarke County

The community of Athens-Clarke County is gearing up for a festive Independence Day celebration with the annual Star Spangled Classic, set to take place on Saturday, June 27. This family-friendly event promises an evening filled with entertainment and activities for all ages.

Festivities will kick off at 6 p.m. at Southeast Clarke Park, where attendees can enjoy a variety of attractions including carnival rides, face painting, and a selection of food trucks. As the evening progresses, the entertainment will continue with a live performance by The Original Splitz Band, scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.

A highlight of the night will be the fireworks display, set to light up the sky at approximately 9:30 p.m. However, guests are advised that parking at the event site is limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis. To accommodate additional vehicles, parking will also be available at the Lexington Road Walmart and Whit Davis Elementary School, with Athens Transit providing a shuttle service to Southeast Clarke Park. All parking lots will open to the public at 5:30 p.m.

Attendees are reminded that standard park regulations will be in effect throughout the event. This means that alcohol, grills, smoking, and personal fireworks are prohibited, and pets will not be allowed on the premises. Following the conclusion of the fireworks show, Southeast Clarke Park will close to the public.
