Amid calls for unity, top Republican figures have urged party members to consolidate their support behind U.S. Rep. Tom Tiffany’s gubernatorial campaign. Concerns about internal discord were evident at the Republican Party of Wisconsin’s recent convention.

These appeals follow unsuccessful attempts to remove Brian Schimming from his role as state party chairman. Despite rumors circulating before the event about potential disruptions, Schimming remained firm. He addressed these rumors by stating, “Here I am,” when questioned about efforts to unseat him.

U.S. Sen. Ron Johnson was among the speakers calling for an end to the party’s internal divisions. “We have no room for division,” Johnson stated. “We have no room for the circular firing squad, which we are very good at. End it. End it now.”

Johnson’s call to action included claims that the Democratic Party is dominated by “radical leftists” aiming to undermine the nation, urging Republicans to counteract by supporting Tiffany and ensuring GOP majorities in Congress.

Scott Walker: Radical Democrats aren’t just wrong, ‘they’re evil’

In a charged address, former Gov. Scott Walker described the coming elections as a battle between “good or evil.” He associated Democrats with various controversial policies and criticized their approach to election integrity.

Walker cited an incident involving Minocqua Brewing Company owner Kirk Bangstad, who offered free beer upon former President Trump’s death, as indicative of moral failings on the left.

GOP officially endorses Tom Tiffany for governor

Unlike previous contentious primaries, the GOP solidified its support for Tiffany, officially endorsing him at the convention. Tiffany criticized Gov. Tony Evers’ policies, including a veto allowing prolonged school funding tax increases and alleged rate hikes by the Public Service Commission.

Promising swift action if elected, Tiffany vowed to overturn Evers’ vetoes, combat fraud, and protect state resources from foreign and technological interests.

Tommy Thompson does push ups on convention stage

In a display of vigor, former Gov. Tommy Thompson performed push-ups on stage before rallying attendees. Thompson, who endorsed Tiffany, emphasized the importance of Republican unity.

“You doubting Thomases that don’t think I’m tough enough to fight for the Republican Party, you got another thing coming, ladies and gentlemen!” exclaimed Thompson, drawing enthusiastic responses from the crowd.
