On New Year’s Day, Lenny Dykstra, a former Major League Baseball star, found himself in trouble with the law in Pike County as reported by state police. The 62-year-old, who resides in Scranton, was a passenger in a 2015 GMC Sierra when he was discovered to have narcotics and related paraphernalia in his possession.
The arrest took place on Route 507 in Greene Township after troopers stopped the vehicle for unspecified motor vehicle violations. The specific type of narcotics involved has not been disclosed, and charges are currently pending.
Lawyer’s Statement on the Incident
In a report by The Associated Press, Dykstra’s legal representative, Matthew Blit, clarified that the vehicle was not owned by Dykstra and emphasized that his client was not accused of being under the influence at the time of the incident. Blit stated, “To the extent charges are brought against him, they will be swiftly absolved.”

Known as “Nails” for his gritty playing style, Dykstra had a career spanning over a decade in Major League Baseball, primarily as a centerfielder for the New York Mets and the Philadelphia Phillies. His career statistics include a .285 batting average, 81 home runs, 404 RBIs, and 285 stolen bases.
After retiring from baseball, Dykstra admitted to losing the substantial earnings he had accumulated, leading to several legal issues. His past legal troubles have been well-documented. Following a stroke in February 2024, Dykstra relocated to Scranton for rehabilitation.
