Phuzz Phest returns to Winston-Salem after a ten-year hiatus

Phuzz Phest Makes a Triumphant Return to Winston-Salem

The vibrant sounds of Phuzz Phest are set to fill the streets of Winston-Salem once again as the festival makes its long-awaited return after a ten-year break. Originally launched in 2011, the festival grew from a grassroots community event into a diverse musical showcase featuring artists from various genres.

Philip Pledger, the founder and director of Phuzz Phest, recalls the early days of creating a festival that celebrated the local music scene while bringing national and international acts to unique venues in the city. “We worked really hard to bring, you know, national acts, touring acts, sometimes international acts who may not have come to Winston-Salem otherwise, but bring them here to utilize our unique spaces, our venues,” he explains. “And then while at the same time elevating the local artists, to really just be like the best snapshot of Winston Salem possible.”

The festival was put on hold due to the disappearance of local venues and changes in funding models for arts organizations. However, Pledger is optimistic about the revival of Phuzz Phest, thanks to new sponsorships and additional performance spaces. He is eager to contribute to the community’s cultural landscape once more.

Music enthusiasts can look forward to experiencing Phuzz Phest in Camel City from April 9 to 11, as it seeks to reaffirm its role in celebrating the artistic spirit of Winston-Salem.
