Deadline Extension Announced for Disaster Assistance in Western North Carolina
Homeowners in Western North Carolina, still dealing with the repercussions of Hurricane Helene, have been granted an extension to apply for crucial disaster recovery support. State officials have moved the application deadline for the Renew NC Single-Family Housing Program to January 31, 2026, as confirmed by Gov. Josh Stein on Friday.
This decision follows appeals from community members eager for more time to address their housing needs. Since its launch in June, the program has seen over 6,500 applications, with construction initiatives already progressing in counties such as Buncombe, Henderson, McDowell, and Polk.
“We want to give folks every opportunity to apply for housing support,” stated Stein, emphasizing that the extension is designed to reduce holiday season stress for affected residents.
Funded by $807 million in federal resources, the program offers repair or replacement options for homes across 28 counties in the region. Importantly, officials encourage residents to apply regardless of any previous aid received from FEMA or private insurers.
Interested homeowners can submit their applications via the RenewNC.org website, by calling (888) 791-0207, or by visiting intake centers located in Asheville, Boone, and Marion.
