Historic Rockingham Speedway Acquired by IHRA
The International Hot Rod Association (IHRA) has made headlines with its acquisition of Rockingham Speedway, the legendary racing venue affectionately dubbed “The Rock.” This purchase marks a significant step for the IHRA as it seeks to honor the track’s rich history in NASCAR and American motorsports.
The IHRA’s intentions are clear: to rejuvenate Rockingham Speedway and maintain its storied legacy. Plans for enhancements include upgrading facilities and expanding amenities, with an eye towards hosting concerts and various entertainment events. “This isn’t about changing what made Rockingham special,” stated IHRA Owner Darryl Cuttell in a press release. “It’s about investing in it, taking care of it, and making sure it continues to be a place where great racing and great memories are made.”
Listed for sale recently, the speedway has been a pivotal location in the racing world, having recently hosted a major NASCAR event after several years. The excitement continues with the NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts Series set to return during the Easter weekend.
IHRA officials promise to share more information about upcoming events, facility improvements, and future schedules in the months ahead. Racing enthusiasts and Rockingham’s loyal fans eagerly await the revival of this iconic track.
