City Demands Action on Unsafe Apartment Complex
In Greensboro, city officials are ramping up efforts to ensure safety at an apartment complex that has been deemed hazardous. The District at West Market, which had nearly 200 residents, was evacuated after inspectors found perilous issues, notably malfunctioning electrical breakers. As a consequence, the involved contractor’s license has been rescinded by the state.
During a recent city council meeting, Greensboro City Manager Trey Davis disclosed that a warning letter had been dispatched to Pfalzgraf Communities 9 LLC, the property owner. The letter demands urgent corrective measures. Furthermore, city code enforcement teams are conducting a meticulous examination of the premises.
“These actions that were taken by staff were to prioritize, first, public safety of people that are there, for accountability of people that are owners of these properties, but then also to maintain the due process,” Davis articulated.
The letter stipulates a two-week deadline for the property owner to reply with a plan. Meanwhile, the city has temporarily accommodated 48 former tenants in hotels as they seek long-term housing solutions.
