New Aid for Rental Repairs Following Hurricane Helene
This week, a significant step was taken towards recovery in North Carolina as Governor Josh Stein unveiled a fresh plan focusing on the restoration of rental properties affected by Hurricane Helene. This new measure aims to assist owners of small rental units in making necessary repairs.
The Small Rental Rehabilitation Program specifically targets landlords who own up to four units. A crucial condition of the program is that these property owners must commit to maintaining affordable rental prices for a period of ten years post-repair.
Funding for this initiative is substantial, with over $57 million allocated from federal resources. Property owners in counties such as Watauga, Wilkes, and Yadkin are among those eligible to apply for this financial support.
This program is part of a broader strategy by state officials to tackle the extensive damage left in the wake of Helene. Earlier this year, North Carolina introduced the Single-Family Housing program, which has already seen over 6,000 applications, underscoring the urgent need for housing repair and rehabilitation in the region.
