Former State Lawmaker Faces New Indictments Over Alleged Crimes
Recent developments have intensified the legal troubles for Cecil Brockman, a former Democratic state representative in Guilford County. Following his arrest earlier this year on allegations of sexual misconduct with a minor, Brockman now faces additional charges.
According to court documents, the grand jury has brought forth three new counts against Brockman. These include statutory sex offenses and indecent liberties with a child. Additionally, he has been indicted on two counts of first-degree sexual exploitation of a minor.
Brockman stepped down from his legislative position last year upon his initial arrest. The accusations stem from claims that he initiated a relationship with a 15-year-old using an online dating platform and subsequently attempted to track the individual. His defense argues that Brockman was under the impression that the minor was of legal age.
In light of these charges, Brockman is currently detained without the possibility of bond, as dictated by the newly implemented Iryna’s Law.
