A Winter Storm Sweeps Through Western Nevada and the Sierra

Western Nevada and the Sierra are experiencing significant precipitation today, which is set to persist throughout the day. Snowfall has begun at elevations above 7,500 feet and is expected to decline to 6,000 feet by nightfall. Travelers should prepare for potential delays as a winter weather advisory and warning are currently in effect. Donner Pass is projected to accumulate approximately 18 inches of snow, while the Tahoe area might see snowfall ranging from one to four inches.

As the weather system progresses, Elko will see precipitation transition into light snowfall by tomorrow.

In addition to the winter weather, a wind advisory is active across most of Northern Nevada, with Central Nevada under a high wind warning. Winds are forecasted to remain steady between 35 to 45 mph, with gusts exceeding 50 mph. These conditions are expected to subside by around 11 p.m. tonight.

Looking ahead to tomorrow, Reno is predicted to experience a high temperature of about 56 degrees. However, the storm’s passage will bring freezing temperatures overnight, leading into Thursday morning.
