The riders’ bright red tops, green skirts, and Charro hats were complemented by the vivid red tack adorning their horses, celebrating their cultural identity. This display was part of the escaramuza charra, a female equestrian event integral to Mexico’s national sport, charrería.
Enthusiastic spectators filled the stands, cheering as the performers demonstrated their equestrian skills across the arena. Among the audience was Nancy González, who eagerly recorded her daughter’s first performance with Corazones Plateados de Nevada, a group known for their equestrian prowess.
“It’s a huge pride and such a great joy, especially since it’s her first time she’s been welcomed into the team to participate. She’s trained a lot and achieved in such a short time,” González expressed in Spanish.
Later, the night echoed with the sounds of a banda as horses and their charros entered the arena for the caballos bailadores, where horses perform a unique dance in response to music. The judges observed as each horse and rider took center stage, showcasing the traditional equestrian practice from Mexico.

Óscar Razo, a charro in the event, explained his passion for this tradition. “[Horse dancing] is a tradition that spans years. It’s a pleasure and something really beautiful that we like,” he said in Spanish.
The event was organized by Rancho Uva Blanka Family Wines, with Billy Rodríguez expressing aspirations for future events in Carson City. “We’re gonna hopefully do it next year again. We’re gonna have a rodeo show, we’re gonna have bulls next time as well,” Rodríguez stated.
Despite the event’s brevity, González noted the positive reception from attendees. “The audience have really enjoyed it and we’re also really happy that they’re holding these events,” she remarked in Spanish.
