Boxing Legend Terence “Bud” Crawford Announces Retirement
In a surprising turn of events, Omaha’s own Terence “Bud” Crawford has decided to hang up his gloves. The announcement was made through his YouTube and X accounts, marking the end of a storied career in the boxing world.
Crawford’s recent victory over Canelo Alvarez on September 13 secured him an undisputed title across three different weight classes—a record achievement in modern boxing. His retirement statement read, “Walking away as a great with nothing else left to prove,” as he shared on Wednesday morning.
The Omaha Bryan High School alumnus leaves an impressive legacy with a perfect record of 42 wins, 31 by knockout, and zero losses. Omaha Mayor John Ewing Jr. praised Crawford’s contributions, saying, “Bud Crawford made boxing history while wearing his hometown name,” and added that he appreciated Crawford’s dedication to Omaha and his efforts in serving the youth and uniting the community.
Beyond the ring, Crawford has faced some challenges recently. He made headlines when one of his title belts was revoked over unpaid sanctioning fees. Additionally, a traffic stop incident involving Omaha Police drew attention, where officers reportedly saw a firearm on the driver’s side floorboard, later confirmed to be legally owned. Crawford has pleaded not guilty to reckless driving charges, with a court hearing slated for New Year’s Eve.
