Republican Candidates in Michigan’s 10th Linked to Scandalous Prosecutor

Lucido’s shadow looms over Michigan’s 10th District GOP primary

Michigan’s 10th District GOP Race Features Candidates Linked to Controversial Prosecutor

The upcoming Republican primary for Michigan’s 10th District is drawing attention due to the candidates’ connections to Peter Lucido, a prosecutor marred by allegations of misconduct.

Mike Bouchard Jr. has garnered financial backing from Lucido, while Robert Lulgjuraj, another contender, previously served under Lucido in the Macomb County prosecutor’s office. Both candidates maintained their associations with Lucido despite the multiple sexual harassment accusations levied against him.

Peter Lucido first faced widespread scrutiny in 2020 while serving as a Michigan Senator. Reporter Allison Donahue challenged him over his participation in a Facebook group that allegedly made violent threats against Governor Gretchen Whitmer. Lucido’s response involved a remark to a group of all-male students, saying, “You could have a lot of fun with these boys, or they could have a lot of fun with you!” This comment left Donahue feeling humiliated and objectified.

Shortly after, Democratic state Sen. Mallory McMorrow, who is now pursuing a U.S. Senate seat, filed a formal complaint. She accused Lucido of inappropriate physical contact and suggesting that her election win was due to her appearance, describing the incident as personally deflating.

Lobbyist Melissa Osborn also came forward with similar allegations, recounting an encounter where Lucido commented on her appearance while touching her inappropriately. A state Senate investigation deemed these allegations credible, leading to Lucido’s removal from a key Senate committee leadership position in early 2020.

Another accusation emerged in 2021 from County Judge Lisa McCormick, who detailed unwelcome physical contact by Lucido during a meeting in 2019.

Lucido secured the role of Macomb County prosecutor in the November 2020 elections. However, he faced further allegations of harassment from his office staff, who accused him of making derogatory comments about women and using racially insensitive language to describe Black constituents.

Despite these controversies, Lucido was reelected in 2024. Lulgjuraj, a supporter of Lucido’s campaign, was appointed as an assistant prosecutor shortly afterward.

In July 2025, Lucido initiated a super PAC favoring Bouchard’s candidacy and officially endorsed him in March. Bouchard expressed gratitude for the endorsement, stating on X: “Grateful to have the support of Macomb County Prosecutor Pete Lucido! Pete has spent his career protecting families across Macomb County. Together, we’ll keep fighting to make Michigan’s 10th District the best place to live, work, and raise a family, and we’ll always put Michigan first.”

Bouchard and Lulgjuraj will face off in the Republican primary scheduled for August 4, with Democratic candidates including former Pontiac Mayor Tim Greimel and prosecutor Christina Hines also vying for the seat.
