The Mebane City Council has given a green light to a proposed development on Buckhorn Road, which will host a new Sheetz outlet. This decision comes after a unanimous vote, emphasizing the council’s support for the project.
The approved plan outlines a 6,800-square-foot convenience store accompanied by fueling stations, with provisions for tractor-trailer access. This establishment will mark the second Sheetz location within Mebane, potentially enhancing the region’s commercial landscape.
Traffic implications and the absence of electric vehicle charging stations were among the key concerns raised during discussions. Despite these concerns, the project proceeded with unanimous consent.
Council Member Jonathan White expressed cautious optimism, stating, “There’s aspects of this plan I don’t love, but I’m trusting that through the TRC and the experts on this, this is going to work out okay. I just, I hope this doesn’t turn into a mini-nightmare, but I think we’ve asked the right questions.”
To address potential traffic issues, the project includes notable street enhancements, such as the addition of a traffic signal and new turn lanes at a Buckhorn Road intersection.
