Buddhist Monks’ Peaceful Journey Inspires Greensboro Community
Under a serene sky, Buddhist monks on a nationwide “Walk for Peace” made a significant stop in Greensboro, drawing hundreds to the Chua Quan Am Temple. Their presence was not just about the journey but also about spreading a vital message of unity and mindfulness.
The Venerable Bhikkhu Pannakara highlighted the importance of mindfulness in daily life, urging everyone to manage the ups and downs effectively. “We have good days and bad days, but we have to know how to manage it,” he stated.
Pannakara also emphasized the necessity of living with intention to find peace. He remarked, “Nobody in this world will love you more than yourself, and in order for you to love yourself, you have to find the purpose in life.”
Brian Hoskins, a Greensboro resident who attended the event, was deeply touched by the monks’ tranquility. He expressed hope that their message of thoughtfulness resonates within the community. “We need to be more neighborly. I think it needs to start from a micro aspect, and then just branch out,” Hoskins suggested.
Kuku Naing, another attendee, noted the unifying effect of the monks’ message, stating, “This is very simple, not political, not religion, just for the peace. Everybody needs the peace.”
The monks embarked on this peaceful mission in Texas, with plans to conclude it in Washington, D.C., spreading their message of peace and unity across the country.
