The Athens-Area Homeless Shelter Expands to Enhance Support for Families
In a strategic move aimed at bolstering support for families experiencing homelessness, the Athens-Area Homeless Shelter is set to relocate to a more spacious site. This transition involves selling the current Barber Street property to a private entity and consolidating operations at a new location on Bray Street, aptly named the Athens Resource Center for Hope (ARCH) Village.
According to a recent statement, this expansion will enable the shelter to accommodate twice as many families in its emergency shelter program, increasing its capacity from 4 to 8 families. Executive Director Olivia Amato highlighted that the relocation, expected to be completed next year, will facilitate improved access for families to nearby nonprofits and vital health services.
