Lyndon House Showcases Furry Friends in Summer Series
Pet lovers and art enthusiasts have a reason to rejoice as the Lyndon House Arts Center is set to unveil its Summer Series. This Thursday marks the beginning of a vibrant display featuring five unique exhibitions, prominently including the community-wide Pet Portraits exhibit. Visitors will have the chance to view 169 pieces of art that celebrate the charm and companionship of animals.
Executive Director Andrea Wellnitz expressed the diversity of the exhibit: “Celebrating many of the pets that all of us love,” she said. “We have 87 dogs, we have 58 cats, we have horses, we have birds, we have fish, we have bunnies, we have goats, reptiles, we even have a piglet in there. And there are many other companion animals too and those portraits do really reflect the bond that we have with our pets.”
The initiative also extends beyond art, as the organizers have planned a pet supply drive to support the Athens-Clarke County Animal Services Shelter. Attendees are encouraged to contribute by donating essential supplies for the shelter’s residents.
“So, when you visit this exhibition, any time between the opening reception, between June 18 and August 29, during regular open hours, we are collecting toys, towels, treats, and all types of food, unopened food. Both wet and dry for cats and dogs. We will be collecting that and then we will be dropping it off at the Athens-Clarke County Animal Shelter,” Wellnitz added.
The opening reception is scheduled for Thursday from 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm, promising an engaging evening at the Lyndon House Arts Center.
