Climate Expert Bids Farewell After Decades of Service at UGA
Pam Knox, a seasoned climatologist, will conclude her tenure as the director of the University of Georgia’s Weather Network on May 29. Since joining UGA in 2001, Knox has dedicated herself to understanding and communicating the impacts of climate on agriculture in the Southeastern U.S. through her role with the university’s extension office.
Over her 25-year career, Knox has become a trusted source for climate data and insights in the region. She acknowledges the inherent variability in Georgia’s weather patterns but notes significant shifts in recent times.
“It’s not unusual to have ice storms or flash floods like we’re having now, or droughts,” Knox remarked. “All those things are a natural part of climate variability, but they’re starting to change in ways we haven’t seen before. Because we do know that the climate of Georgia is getting warmer…”
As she steps down, Knox encourages individuals to rely on credible weather information and emphasizes the importance of proactive planning in response to climate changes.
