Downtown Athens is set to resonate with the harmonious blend of holiday tunes, as the boombox parade makes its anticipated comeback this Friday.
Phil Kline’s Unsilent Night, a unique sound sculpture event that first captivated audiences in New York, is now back in Athens.
This parade creates a dynamic auditory experience as participants play synchronized music from boomboxes, portable speakers, or mobile phones. The collective sound evolves as the procession moves along.
Mark Mobley, the event’s organizer, emphasizes its inclusive nature, stating, “Physically carrying this music together through downtown is one of the best ways to express the warmth and joy of the season, regardless of affiliation, regardless of what expectations you bring. It’s just a way for people to get together and celebrate getting together…”
The event is free and will commence on December 19th at 7:30 pm, starting from Little Kings. To join the parade, participants are encouraged to visit unsilentnight.com for instructions. Participants will choose one of four tracks to play during the 45-minute journey.
