Eric Gisler Wins Key Special Election, Flips State House Seat Blue

Democrat wins long-held Republican seat

Democrat Secures Victory in Key State House Race

In a tightly contested special election, Democrat Eric Gisler successfully captured the District 121 state house seat, previously held by Marcus Wiedower. Gisler’s victory over Republican Mack “Dutch” Guest IV marks a significant shift in the political landscape of the district. Gisler shared insights into his campaign’s success.

“You know anything can happen in a Special Election,” Gisler remarked. “I think what we did was we had the right message, we had a message that resonates with voters, and probably more important than that we had a fantastic team of volunteers.”

Gisler emphasized his commitment to addressing the needs of all constituents across both counties he will represent. He expressed a desire to engage with local leaders to better understand regional priorities before the legislative session begins.

“Which I think is something that has been lacking in this position for several years now,” Gisler noted. “I plan to meet with leaders from both counties before session starts so I can make sure I’m aware of their needs before we get started.”

Focusing his campaign on affordability issues, Gisler aims to tackle critical concerns such as housing, food, and energy costs, alongside improving health care access, which he identifies as a pressing issue in Georgia.

“That [affordability] applies to housing, food, energy. Really everything, and then health care access. That’s a becoming a real crisis in Georgia and it has been for a long time and it’s only getting worse,” Gisler stated.
