Arrest Made in Scranton Child Abduction Attempt Involving Stolen Vehicle
In the early hours, Scranton police apprehended an individual linked to the use of a stolen car and the alleged child abduction attempt near South Scranton Intermediate School. The arrest follows heightened security measures around local schools.
While the suspect’s identity remains undisclosed, authorities continue to investigate the incident, as confirmed in a recent media release. The case attracted attention after a masked suspect, driving a stolen silver Hyundai Elantra, reportedly tried to abduct a child outside the school premises.
Surveillance footage, released by the police, shows the suspect walking north on Cedar Avenue towards East Elm Street at approximately 8:17 a.m. This footage was captured in the 1100 block of Cedar Avenue, aiding the search efforts.
In response to the incident, the Scranton School District advised parents to accompany their children to and from school or bus stops. On Tuesday morning, the district expressed gratitude to families and staff for their cooperation and thanked law enforcement for their diligent efforts in locating the suspect.
The district’s statement highlighted, “Their professionalism and persistence reflect the importance of strong partnerships between schools and law enforcement.”
