Early action applications increase at UGA for Fall 2026

University of Georgia Sees Surge in Early Action Applications for 2026

The University of Georgia (UGA) has experienced a significant increase in early action applications for the fall 2026 intake, with more than 34,000 aspiring students seeking admission. This marks a 12.8% rise compared to previous years, highlighting the growing interest in UGA’s academic offerings.

Notably, the surge was most pronounced among out-of-state applicants, who submitted applications at a rate nearly double that of their in-state counterparts. The increase was quantified at 17.9% for out-of-state applications compared to an 8.54% rise in applications from within Georgia. Ultimately, over 10,700 students were granted early action admission.

Applications were received from across 49 states and 129 counties within Georgia, indicating a broad geographical appeal. The previous year saw applications from 115 Georgia counties, showcasing an expanded reach. To manage this influx, UGA implemented a two-wave announcement strategy: in-state admissions were revealed on November 21, while out-of-state decisions followed on December 12.

UGA President Jere W. Morehead commented on the trend, stating, “Exceptional students throughout our state and across the country continue to be drawn to the University of Georgia’s world-class learning environment.” He emphasized the institution’s commitment to its mission of offering exemplary education, pioneering research, and community service.

Students who were not accepted through early action have been deferred to the regular decision round. These applicants will receive full consideration and can enhance their applications with senior year grades and new test scores. The deadline for regular decision applications is January 1, with final decisions expected by mid-March.
