Nebraska and Creighton shine in AVCA All-American volleyball honors

Three Husker volleyball players named first-team All-Americans

Top Volleyball Players Garner All-American Honors

In a remarkable display of skill and dedication, Andi Jackson, Harper Murray, and Bergen Reilly were awarded first-team All-American honors by the American Volleyball Coaches Association on Wednesday. Rebekah Allick was also recognized, earning a spot on the second team. More details here.

This marks the second consecutive year for Jackson on the first team, having achieved a notable Big Ten record for hitting percentage in conference games with a .559 rate this season.

Both Murray and Reilly have been named to the AVCA All-American team for the third time in their careers, but this year marks their first appearance on the first team. Allick, in her fourth year of college volleyball, received her inaugural All-American honor.

Creighton Bluejays Make Their Mark

For Creighton, Ava Martin and Kiara Reinhardt earned positions on the second team, while Annalea Maeder was listed on the third team. All three players are seniors, contributing to Creighton’s continuous streak, now 14 years running, of having a player on the AVCA team.

The selection process for these prestigious honors involves a committee of 11 Division I volleyball coaches, who choose 42 players to comprise the first, second, and third teams.

Leading Schools in All-American Selections

Nebraska tied with Kentucky and Texas A&M, each having four players on the first, second, or third teams. Creighton closely followed with three players.

Remarkably, the Huskers and Bluejays are part of a select group of seven schools that have placed more than one All-American on the AVCA team for five consecutive years. This group includes Kentucky, Louisville, Pittsburgh, Stanford, and Wisconsin.

Challenges in the NCAA Tournament

Both Nebraska and Creighton faced tough competition in the Elite Eight round of the NCAA Tournament last weekend. Nebraska narrowly lost to Texas A&M, 3-2, concluding their season with a 33-1 record under first-year coach Dani Busboom Kelly. The only team in school history to finish undefeated was the 2000 squad, led by former head coach John Cook.

Creighton, under the leadership of first-year head coach Brian Rosen, was swept 3-0 by Kentucky. Despite the loss, Rosen guided the Bluejays to their second consecutive and third-ever Elite Eight appearance, finishing the season with an impressive 28-6 record and a perfect 16-0 in conference play.
