Greensboro City Council Welcomes Fresh Faces Amid Economic Growth Plans
Greensboro City Hall was abuzz with activity on Tuesday as new members of the City Council took their oaths of office. The council, now predominantly comprised of new members, is set to tackle the city’s evolving economic landscape and its ambitious housing goals.
In this significant shift, only three members from the previous term remain, as six fresh faces join the council. This change comes at a critical time as Greensboro targets the construction of 10,000 homes in the coming years to accommodate its growing population.
Mayor Marikay Abuzuaiter, newly sworn in, emphasized the importance of building and maintaining strong relationships, both within the council and with the wider community. “Building those relationships is something that we need to do, not only with ourselves, but also with our community,” she expressed. “And I think we have made great strides, and I want to see that continue.”
In a unanimous decision, the council appointed Denise Roth as mayor pro tem. Each member, including Roth, will serve a four-year term, bringing new energy and perspectives to the city’s leadership.
