Georgia’s Labor Market Breaks Records

Georgia’s labor market is making history with unprecedented growth in both employment and labor force numbers. The state has surpassed the 5 million job mark for the first time, showcasing a remarkable increase in employment opportunities.

The Georgia Department of Labor reports that jobs in the state increased by nearly 7,000 in May, contributing to a total of over 5 million positions. Simultaneously, the labor force also achieved a milestone by reaching over 5.4 million participants, growing by more than 9,000 in the same month.

In a positive turn for job seekers, Georgia’s unemployment rate decreased to 3.4% in May, which is 0.9 percentage points lower than the national average. This reflects a robust job market with plentiful opportunities, particularly in certain sectors.

The accommodation and food services sector, along with the administrative and support services sector, saw the most significant job gains in May. However, the professional and technical services sector experienced a slight downturn over the month.

Adding to the optimistic outlook, initial unemployment claims in Georgia dropped by almost 2,000 in May, further indicating a strengthening job market and economic stability in the state.
