Sen. Dan Sullivan’s Campaign Funds Used for Luxury Hotels, Golf Resorts

Dan Sullivan groups spent $1.5 million on golf resorts and luxury lodging

Alaska Senator’s Campaign Expenditure Scrutinized

Alaska Senator Dan Sullivan has reportedly utilized over $1.5 million of campaign funds at high-end hotels and dining establishments, his financial disclosures reveal.

While campaign funds can legally cover expenses related to meals and travel for official tasks, federal regulations prohibit using these resources for personal gain.

Sullivan’s expenses span nearly his entire Senate tenure since 2015 and continue into his current reelection bid. He is anticipated to run against former Representative Mary Peltola in the upcoming election.

The spending is linked to three organizations: Alaskans for Dan Sullivan, his main campaign committee; Sullivan Victory, a joint fundraising committee; and True North PAC, which supports other Republican candidates.

In the first quarter of 2026, these entities collectively spent $65,847 on dining and lodging, with approximately 92% of the expenditures taking place outside of Alaska, including a $3,500 stay at the Four Seasons Resort in Palm Beach, Florida.

In 2025, their expenditure on lodging, meals, and catering reached $333,291, a significant increase from $164,936 in 2024.

Criticism from the Alaska Democratic Party highlights Sullivan’s preference for luxury hotels with golf facilities. A press release from the Democrats in April detailed these expenditures, noting Sullivan’s recurring visits to golf resorts.

Alaska Democratic Party Chair Eric Croft stated, “While we’re paying $5 for a gallon of gas, choosing between paying for groceries or health care, and struggling to afford housing, Self-Serving Sullivan has literally been wining and dining Lower 48 special interest donors at luxurious golf resorts.”

Notable expenses include 24 payments totaling $160,737 at La Quinta Resort & Club in Palm Springs, California, known for its five golf courses and as a filming location for season 16 of The Bachelorette.

Between 2022 and 2025, Sullivan groups reportedly spent over $151,000 on lodging and events at Kiawah Island, South Carolina, primarily at the Kiawah Golf Resort, host of the 2021 PGA Championship.

According to a Bloomberg News report from October 2025, Sullivan co-hosted a fundraiser with Arkansas Senator John Boozman on Kiawah Island during a government shutdown. Boozman is known for his golfing interests.

Earlier this year, $21,000 was spent by Sullivan groups at The Phoenician in Scottsdale, Arizona, a resort with a golf course designed by Phil Smith and known for celebrity visitors. Room rates here can reach $9,500 per night.

From 2019 to 2025, $2,441 was spent at The Breakers resort in Palm Beach, featuring an oceanside golf course near President Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate.

This high-end spending contrasts with Sullivan’s image as a working-class representative, often attending campaigns in work boots and a Carhartt jacket.

Quiver Quantitative estimates Sullivan’s net worth at $8.4 million.
