Tragic Wrong-Way Collision Claims Multiple Lives in Athens
A devastating wrong-way crash on December 21st has resulted in the loss of multiple lives, including a pregnant woman and her unborn child from Athens. She was in a critical state for three days before succumbing to her injuries in the hospital.
The young woman, who was just 15 weeks pregnant, was a passenger in a Toyota Camry driven by a 25-year-old male, also from Athens. The tragic incident occurred on GA 10 Inner Loop when their vehicle was hit head-on by a Kia Seltos driven by a 26-year-old woman from Lawrenceville, who was traveling in the wrong direction. The driver of the Toyota was pronounced dead at the scene.
Before the catastrophic collision with the Toyota, the Kia Seltos had already hit two other vehicles. The impact left the Kia resting on the cable barriers, where it eventually caught fire. Sadly, the driver of the Kia also died at the scene due to her injuries, while her passenger was rushed to a nearby hospital and remains in critical condition.
The case is currently under active investigation, and authorities are seeking any information that could aid in understanding the circumstances leading up to the crash. Those with potential information are urged to reach out to Senior Police Officer Santos at Joshua.Santos@accgov.com or call 762-400-7258.
