An Artistic Marvel in High Point Draws Nationwide Attention
High Point has recently become a hotspot for art enthusiasts and curious visitors, thanks to the introduction of a colossal troll sculpture by acclaimed Danish artist Thomas Dambo. Nestled in a secluded area west of downtown, the sculpture has quickly captured the hearts of many.
Within the vine-draped woods behind a deserted sock factory, the captivating figure of Little Sally, a smiling troll standing at 18 feet tall, greets visitors. Crafted entirely from pieces of scrap wood and other found wooden materials, this structure is a testament to Dambo’s artistic vision and collaboration with local volunteers.
“I think that’s why people love my art so much,” Dambo shared. “It is because it’s not trying to sell people something. It’s made with people’s hands, it’s right there, and it has a pure, good intention behind it.”
Since its public reveal in early November, the site at the intersection of West Green Drive and West Grimes Avenue has seen an influx of over 31,000 visitors. Though the economic impact of Little Sally on the local community, famously known as the furniture capital, remains to be fully assessed, Melody Burnett, President of Visit High Point, notes that guests have traveled from 41 states to witness this artistic wonder.
