A local teacher transcends her conventional educator role to become a true hero, reflecting the power of love, friendship, and community in a touching tale.
Jamie Lynn Dorr, a brave mother overcoming the uphill task of raising her son on the spectrum, shared an impactful update on her Facebook page. A surprising revelation that drew an emotional response from many: her son’s teacher is the ideal liver donor for her son’s critical liver transplant.

Four years prior, Jamie moved to a new town with limited friends and a son, Bowen, who needed her undivided attention. Life was filled with a sense of uncertainty and isolation. That’s when Holly Allgood stepped into their lives, carrying with her a wealth of kindness, support and a friendship that would change their lives for the better.
Being described as “pure sunshine and joy,” Holly has not just been a teacher to Bowen, but a trustworthy companion and a consistent source of comfort for Jamie.
Jamie expressed how Holly is truly “the salt of the earth”. From their first meeting, she has constantly reassured Jamie that they are never alone, even on difficult days. She has shared Jamie’s worries and tears, answered her late-night calls, and witnessed some of their most challenging days, always lending a helping hand.
As Bowen’s health started to decline, Holly was right there, accompanying them every step of the way. She went above her duties as a teacher, constantly checking up on Bowen, even facetiming him from the hospital, and providing Jamie with much-needed strength and support.
When it was revealed that neither Jamie nor her husband Jake were suitable liver donors, Holly immediately offered herself as a donor without any hesitation.
“And of course, in God’s kindness, when neither Jake nor I were a match, He would have it that one of Bowen’s people, his ‘Hottie,’ was his perfect match,” Jamie said.
The liver transplant is scheduled for August 27th.
As Jamie confessed in her emotional post, “Holly Allgood isn’t just his teacher, she’s not just our friend, but she is truly our hero and is laying her life down to give Bowen life and I am grateful Bowen will have a piece of her always.”
