July 22, 2024
One Amarillo, Texas family is making headlines today for their unique rescue of a baby bird using a warm tortilla.
It all started during a family barbecue and swimming session in their backyard. They unexpectedly found a baby bird on the ground, and their quick thinking led them to a creative solution—wrapping the tiny creature in a heated tortilla. The aim was to provide warmth and safety to the bird while waiting for professional assistance.
Wild West Wildlife Rehabilitation Center
The family contacted the Wild West Wildlife Rehabilitation Center immediately. To keep the bird warm and safe, they wrapped it snugly in a tortilla heated on their barbecue grill, a creative animal rescue technique that would soon prove effective.
A wildlife rehabilitator arrived to find the baby Mississippi Kite still snug and warm in its tortilla-wrap. The innovative approach had worked in keeping the tiny bird safe and warm until the professional help arrived.
Now in the care of the Wild West Wildlife Rehabilitation Center, the baby bird is set to undergo several weeks of care and nourishment. The center will feed it insects and frozen mice as it grows stronger and regains its health.
