The incident occurred close to Prince George, BC, where a mother moose was attempting to guide her newborn twin calves across Highway 97. Although the mother successfully crossed, her two calves found themselves trapped in the median, impeded by the concrete barrier dividing the lanes.
A motorist named Sandie captured the unfolding event in a video. She noted how traffic began to slow as drivers became aware of the stranded animals, while the mother moose kept vigil from the opposite side, anxiously watching her calves.
In a stroke of luck, one calf managed to overcome the barrier and reunite with its mother. The other, however, remained stuck, prompting concern as traffic congestion worsened.
Seeing the urgency, Duane Hogberg stepped in, approaching the distressed calf. He carefully hoisted it over the concrete median and carried it across the highway to reunite with its waiting mother.
This touching rescue was recorded on video, showcasing the moment the calf joyfully rejoined its family.
Hogberg’s courageous action ensured the young moose returned safely to its mother, ending the tense ordeal on a high note. His bravery and compassion earned widespread praise, with many applauding the successful rescue.
