High Point Plans Property Tax Relief for Low-Income Homeowners

High Point considers tax relief program for low-income homeowners

High Point Considers Tax Relief for Low-Income Homeowners

High Point city officials are exploring a new tax relief initiative aimed at easing the financial burden for low-income homeowners. This proposal is part of the upcoming budget considerations.

The proposed measure would allow eligible homeowners to receive coverage for up to 50% of their city property tax bill. Eligibility criteria include owning a single-family home in High Point for at least five years, with the property’s assessed value not exceeding $250,000.

City leaders suggest that this program could be similar to existing tax relief schemes provided by Guilford County and Greensboro, both of which have successfully supported homeowners in the region.

The initiative is being discussed against the backdrop of increasing concerns about the rise in local taxes. Even though High Point’s budget plan includes a tax rate reduction, many homeowners may still experience higher tax bills due to the appreciation of their property values. This echoes a common challenge faced by municipalities throughout the Triad region following recent property revaluations.
