Nebraska Softball’s Super Regional Delayed by Rain and Lightning

Nebraska softball's first home super regional postponed to 4 p.m. Friday, due to weather

Weather Interrupts Nebraska Softball’s Historic Home Super Regional

Thursday night was supposed to be a milestone for Nebraska softball, but Mother Nature had other plans. The highly anticipated first home super regional against Oklahoma State faced an unexpected delay, with a lightning strike halting the game in its initial inning.

As fans took shelter in their cars, Bowlin Stadium’s speakers played a medley of rain-themed songs, including hits like “Purple Rain” and “Umbrella.” Despite the musical interlude, the weather remained uncooperative for nearly two hours, causing the schedule for the best-of-three series to be uncertain.

After a brief return to the field, persistent rain forced further delays. The series opener, which paused in the bottom of the first with Nebraska having a runner on first and one out, is set to resume at 4 p.m. Central on Friday. Game two is scheduled for Saturday at 4 p.m., with a potential game three yet to be determined.

Nebraska Athletics confirmed that only tickets for game one, as well as all-session passes, will be honored for Friday’s continuation.

With a spot at the Women’s College World Series in Oklahoma City on the line, fans are eager for the weather to cooperate and allow the games to proceed.
