Labor Market Expansion in Athens Metropolitan Area Observed
The Athens Metropolitan Area, encompassing four counties, demonstrated positive trends in its labor market metrics last month, as detailed in a report by the Georgia Department of Labor.
In February, the unemployment rate experienced a slight uptick to 3.2%, a marginal increase of one-tenth of a percentage point from January, aligning with the rate from the previous year.
The labor force in Athens expanded by 1,096 individuals over the past month and saw an annual rise of 3,680, culminating in a total of 113,677. Employment figures also showed an upward trajectory, with 110,038 residents employed in February, marking an increase of 963 from January, and 3,534 more than February a year ago.
Job opportunities in the Athens area saw a rise as well, with the total number of jobs reaching 108,200. This reflects a monthly increase of 500 and an annual gain of 2,500 jobs.
Initial unemployment claims saw a downturn, decreasing by 101 over the month and by 23 over the year, resulting in a total of 169 claims in February.
