Bomb Threat Leads to Arrest of Middle School Student in Oconee County

An anonymous bomb threat via email triggered the evacuation of four schools in Oconee County, leading to the arrest of a middle school student. The incident underscores the importance of school safety and the swift actions taken by authorities.

The Oconee County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that a student from Dove Creek Middle School was apprehended in connection with the threat. This student now faces serious legal consequences, including four counts of making terroristic threats and four counts of disrupting school operations.

The schools affected by the evacuation were Oconee Middle, Rocky Branch Elementary, North Oconee High School, and Colham Ferry Elementary. Officials emphasized that these measures were precautionary, ensuring the safety of all students and staff. Sheriff James Hale stated that the investigative team successfully traced the threatening emails back to the 14-year-old suspect, who is now under the supervision of the State Department of Juvenile Justice.
