Suspect in Forsyth County Deputy’s Death Released on Bond

A recent development in a tragic case has seen a young man from Winston-Salem released from custody following his arrest in connection with the death of a Forsyth County deputy. The case has garnered attention due to the serious nature of the charges and the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Bryan Castillo, aged 19, is now out on a $5,000 bond, according to court records. He faces several charges, including second-degree murder, misdemeanor death by vehicle, and reckless driving. These charges stem from a high-speed crash in March, where Castillo allegedly drove at 100 miles per hour and collided head-on with Deputy Kaleb Mitchell’s vehicle. The collision resulted in Deputy Mitchell’s death after he was transported to Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Hospital.

The case took a turn when a lab report indicated that Castillo had no alcohol in his system on the day of the crash. This finding played a role in his recent release from custody. Castillo is scheduled for another court appearance on May 7, where further proceedings will take place.
