Georgia Braces for Potential Ice Storm This Weekend
Residents across Georgia, particularly in Athens and the northern regions, are being urged to prepare for a significant winter weather event predicted to hit this weekend. Meteorologists have forecasted a major ice storm with freezing rain and sleet expected on both Saturday and Sunday.
Georgia Governor Brian Kemp has advised the public to take this time to stock up on essential supplies. “This is a good to start preparing for this weekend should that happen,” Kemp advised. “If you need batteries, food, gas in your vehicles and other things, you got plenty of time. Be winter weather aware, know that we’ll be messaging the rest of the week working with our state and federal partners on the weather forecast. As always, our state team with be pretreating and preparing for the worst and hoping for the best, but just want to remind everybody to go out, be winter weather prepared and we’ll keep you posted on how things are going.”
Governor Kemp is expected to provide further updates on the impending storm during a media conference scheduled for Thursday. For continued information and updates, stay tuned to WUGA.
