Aliana and Bailey Gleason had been in a relationship for 11 years and had always envisioned getting married. However, they postponed it, waiting for the perfect time. This changed when Aliana was diagnosed with a rare sarcoma which had spread to her spine, leaving limited options for treatment.
With the urgency of the situation, tying the knot became a priority for the couple.
Upon learning about Aliana and Bailey’s engagement, the staff at HCA HealthOne Swedish Hospital in Englewood, Colorado, took swift action. In just two days, a team of nurses, doctors, and hospital staff organized a wedding for the couple within the hospital premises free of charge, ensuring they did not have to delay further.
“There isn’t always a lot you can do,” explained nurse manager Matt Turrie to 9 News. “But when you can bring love and joy into someone’s life, you do it.”
Even amidst challenging treatments, Aliana maintained a positive demeanor, which inspired those around her.
The couple shared that the day felt perfect for them.
“I wouldn’t change anything,” stated Bailey Gleason to KUSA.
Aliana Gleason echoed, “Me either.”
Supporters have initiated a GoFundMe to assist with the financial burdens associated with extended hospital care as Aliana transitions to hospice care in Denver.
