Last September marked a significant milestone for the musical trio Ember, as they unveiled their debut album, “Birds of Paradise”. Consisting of harpist Emily Levin, violinist Julia Choi, and cellist Christine Lamprea, Ember offers a fresh take on classical and contemporary compositions.
The album features the “Trio for Harp, Violin & Cello in B-Flat Major” by French composer Henriette Renié, alongside the innovative works of contemporary composers Angélica Negrón and Reena Esmail.
Ember skillfully navigates between Renié’s traditional composition and the modern pieces by Negrón and Esmail, demonstrating their versatility. The album’s title is drawn from Negrón’s “Ave del paraíso,” which is highlighted as the world premiere recording. This piece is distinguished by its gentle instrumental layers and the incorporation of bird calls, creating a unique auditory experience.
In an announcement regarding the album, Ember shared with Jensen Artists: “‘Birds of Paradise’ celebrates the artistic voices of women as both performers and creators. Listeners are invited to experience this dynamic sound world, full of color and warmth, created and performed by women.”
Available through Azica, the album is ready for those eager to explore this vibrant soundscape.
