Scott Brown Announces Senate Bid in New Hampshire

Former Massachusetts Senator Scott Brown, noted for his opposition to the Affordable Care Act (ACA), has declared his candidacy for a U.S. Senate seat in New Hampshire for the upcoming election year.

In a campaign video, Brown expressed his support for President Donald Trump and pledged to confront the “extreme left,” accusing them of bolstering Hamas and supporting policies like allowing men to compete in women’s sports.

Speaking to WMUR, Brown stated, “The reason I’m running is I’m kind of fed up with the federal delegation,” criticizing policies related to open borders, sanctuary cities, and what he described as fervent efforts to protect illegal immigrants’ rights.

Brown gained national attention in 2010 after winning a special election unexpectedly to fill the Senate seat left vacant by the late Sen. Ted Kennedy. However, his tenure was short-lived as he lost his reelection bid in 2012 to current Sen. Elizabeth Warren.

During his time in office, Brown was a vocal critic of the ACA, or Obamacare, arguing it was financially unsustainable and would exacerbate the federal deficit. He declared in 2010, “We need to drop this whole scheme of federally controlled health care,” and supported a repeal of the law the following year.

Contrary to Brown’s claims, analyses from the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) have consistently indicated that the ACA actually contributes to a reduction in the deficit, as detailed in a report.

In 2014, Brown attempted another Senate run in New Hampshire, facing allegations of carpetbagging due to his recent shift of residence to the state. Despite framing his objection to the ACA as a principled stance against the law’s penalties for uninsured individuals, he was unsuccessful, losing to Democratic Sen. Jeanne Shaheen by about 16,000 votes.

Brown, who later served as U.S. Ambassador to New Zealand and Samoa during the Trump administration, remarked, “Obamacare forces us to make a choice: live free or log on,” asserting that New Hampshire residents prefer freedom.

Brown is currently the only high-profile Republican to have entered the New Hampshire Senate race, while U.S. Rep. Chris Pappas stands as the leading Democrat. In response to Brown’s announcement, Pappas took to social media, stating, “It’s official: MAGA loyalist Scott Brown just announced he’s running to flip this seat red. New Hampshire rejected him before, and we can do it again.”
