The Northeast Pennsylvania region is experiencing a shift in weather expectations as the National Weather Service (NWS) in Binghamton, NY, has downgraded all winter storm warnings to a winter weather advisory. Residents can anticipate minimal snowfall accumulation, with forecasts predicting less than an inch by early afternoon.
In an early morning update, meteorologists shared that significant snowfall is unlikely for the area. The National Weather Service issued a map indicating that Northeast Pennsylvania will experience a gradual decrease in snow intensity, with the Poconos seeing peak snowfall rates of half an inch per hour.
Philly, NYC, Other regions hit hard
While Northeast Pennsylvania avoided the brunt of the storm, other areas along the East Coast have not been as fortunate. Philadelphia, for instance, has already reported snowfall accumulations exceeding 12 inches in some locations, as covered by WHYY.
The Associated Press has detailed how millions in New York City and the northeastern U.S. are enduring severe winter conditions. Road travel bans and blizzard warnings are in effect, with heavy snow and strong winds creating hazardous whiteout conditions throughout the densely populated region.
