Celebrating North Carolina’s Musical Heritage: 2026 Hall of Fame Inductees Announced

Every year, the North Carolina Music Hall of Fame brings together a diverse array of musical talent to honor the state’s rich musical legacy. This year, six new figures have been selected for induction, showcasing a wide range of genres and contributions to the music industry.

Among the 2026 inductees are MC SHA-ROCK, a trailblazer in the Hip-Hop scene, and Sugar Bear, known for his contributions to the Go-Go music genre. The rock band Arrogance, hailing from Chapel Hill, will also be recognized, alongside Barry Poss, the founder of Sugar Hill Records, and jazz composer Billy Strayhorn, who notably collaborated with Duke Ellington.

In addition to these honorees, George Clinton, the founding member of Parliament-Funkadelic, will receive the prestigious Eddie Ray Lifetime Achievement Award this year.

Further information on this year’s inductees can be found here.

The induction ceremony is scheduled for October 15 and will be held at the Charles Mack Citizen Center in Mooresville. This event is open to the public, and tickets are currently available for purchase here.

Established in 1994 in Thomasville, the North Carolina Music Hall of Fame is dedicated to celebrating the achievements of musicians, producers, executives, and educators from North Carolina, covering all music genres and historical periods. The organization aims to bridge the past, present, and future of North Carolina’s musical traditions.

Since moving to its current location in Kannapolis in 2014, the Hall of Fame has continued its tradition of annual inductions, maintaining a museum at 600 Dale Earnhardt Boulevard that features an extensive collection of memorabilia from the state’s musical icons.
