North Carolina Invests $1.53B to Expand Statewide Broadband Access

North Carolina launches major projects to expand high-speed internet

North Carolina’s Ambitious Plan for Statewide High-Speed Internet Expansion

In an effort to bridge the digital divide, North Carolina is embarking on an ambitious mission to enhance access to high-speed internet throughout the state. This initiative is spearheaded by Gov. Josh Stein, who has announced significant broadband projects aimed at connecting over 93,000 residences, businesses, and community locations by the year 2030.

Central to these developments is the recent federal approval of North Carolina’s strategy under the Broadband Equity, Access, and Deployment program. This approval is set to provide the state with a substantial $1.53 billion — among the largest allocations in the nation.

The green light from the federal government has already activated $319 million in funding, which will initiate the first wave of broadband projects. These projects will focus on regions including Forsyth, Guilford, and Yadkin counties.

State officials emphasize that these investments are crucial in addressing the disparities in digital access across North Carolina, aiming to ensure that all communities can benefit from reliable internet connectivity.
