New Mobile Opioid Treatment Unit Launches in Greensboro to Enhance Access to Care
In a significant stride toward enhancing healthcare accessibility, a new mobile opioid treatment unit has commenced operations in Greensboro, marking it as the second such facility in North Carolina. This initiative targets underserved areas within Guilford County, providing crucial medication-assisted treatment and telehealth services.
The state health department emphasizes that these mobile centers are instrumental in overcoming transportation challenges, thereby facilitating easier access to recovery resources for individuals battling opioid addiction. By bringing these services directly to the community, the initiative aims to support sustained recovery efforts.
Currently stationed at Bethel AME Church, the Greensboro unit offers its services on weekdays from 6 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. This strategic location choice is part of a broader effort to reach those who might otherwise face difficulties in accessing fixed-location treatment centers.
Looking ahead, officials have announced plans to deploy up to six additional mobile treatment units throughout the next year. This expansion is made possible through funds allocated for Hurricane Helene relief, underscoring the commitment to leveraging available resources to tackle the opioid crisis effectively.
