Guilford County Democratic Leaders to Vote on Cecil Brockman’s Successor
In light of recent events, Democratic leaders in Guilford County are preparing to appoint a new state representative following the resignation of Cecil Brockman. The decision will be made during a meeting scheduled for Saturday.
Brockman, who represented High Point, stepped down on October 31 after facing felony charges related to an alleged inappropriate relationship with a minor. This unexpected vacancy has prompted a swift response from the party to fill the position.
Four individuals are vying for the role: Joseph Alston, who previously chaired the county party, Amanda Cook, a current High Point City Council Member, Bruce Davis, a former county commissioner, and Angie Williams-McMichael, an educator. Each candidate brings a unique perspective and set of experiences to the table.
The candidates will participate in a virtual forum on Saturday at 9 a.m., providing an opportunity for party leaders to assess their qualifications and visions. Following the forum, voting will commence at 10:30 a.m. Both sessions will be available for public viewing via a livestream on the Guilford County Democratic Party’s Facebook page.
It’s important to note that the voting process is exclusive to party leaders residing within Brockman’s former district, ensuring that the decision reflects the preferences of the local constituency.
