Democratic Candidates Set to Reshape Forsyth County Board Dynamics
In a pivotal moment for Forsyth County politics, Democratic hopefuls for the Board of Commissioners squared off in a forum on Thursday, heating up the race ahead of the upcoming March primary. The outcome carries significant weight for the Democratic Party, which is currently in the minority on the board.
The candidates addressed pressing topics such as budget management, educational funding, and housing—issues that frequently arise during commission meetings. The event placed special emphasis on the District B race, featuring candidates Adam Hill and Marsie West.
“This race is the only race that can change the balance of power on the board. So it is very important that we get the best possible candidate in here,” stated Marsie West, underlining the ongoing struggle for Democrats in the region.
Despite a tendency for Forsyth County residents to support Democrats in presidential elections, the party currently holds only three of the seven seats on the commission. A victory in District B could pave the way for Democratic successes on initiatives that have faced opposition under Republican leadership, including the potential shift to evening meetings.
Marsie West, who works as a business strategist, previously ran for the board in 2024 but was not elected. Her opponent, Adam Hill, is a newcomer to politics and leads a nonprofit organization. The winner of the Democratic primary will go on to challenge Chris Parker, the Republican candidate, in the general election.
