Greensboro names Assistant Chief Chris Schultheis as interim police chief

New Leadership at Greensboro Police Department

In a significant leadership transition, the Greensboro Police Department is set to welcome Chris Schultheis as its interim police chief. This change comes as John Thompson, the current chief, prepares to step down at the end of the month.

Schultheis, who brings a wealth of experience from his current role as assistant chief, has been a part of the Greensboro Police Department (GPD) since 1998. His extensive career has seen him take on various responsibilities, notably serving as the lead instructor at the police academy.

In recognition of his dedicated service, Schultheis received an Advanced Law Enforcement certificate in 2014. His contributions have also earned him prestigious accolades such as the Meritorious Conduct Bar and the Lifesaving Medal.

Chris Schultheis is slated to assume his new responsibilities as interim police chief on February 27.
