Charlotte Residents Rally Against Federal Immigration Actions
A significant crowd assembled outside the federal courthouse in uptown Charlotte on Friday, voicing their opposition to recent federal immigration enforcement actions in Minneapolis. The gathering highlighted growing concerns over the use of force by immigration authorities.
Demonstrators carried signs with messages like “Stop Truth Decay” and “Enough Lies,” protesting against the killing of two U.S. citizens in Minneapolis and the aggressive tactics employed by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Border Patrol agents.
Several advocacy organizations, including Indivisible Charlotte, the Party for Socialism and Liberation, and the Charlotte-Metrolina Labor Council, were at the forefront of organizing this protest.
“The people of Charlotte and the people of Minnesota alike, we are ready to stand up,” said Sabrina, a participant who chose not to disclose her surname due to safety concerns. “We are ready to shut it down to put an end to this ICE terror and to demand that we abolish ICE.”
The Charlotte protest was part of a larger, nationwide day of action and strike aimed at addressing these issues.
Local businesses also expressed solidarity with the movement. While they remained open, establishments like Pilot Brewing and Summit Coffee announced plans to donate their Friday proceeds to immigrant support organizations, such as the Carolina Migrant Network and ourBRIDGE for Kids.
