Amazon Expands Supply Chain Services, Potentially Shaking Up Triad’s Logistic Sector
Amazon has announced the availability of its Supply Chain Services to businesses, a move that could impact shipping companies in the Triad region. This service aims to assist businesses with the movement, storage, and delivery of goods, potentially altering the current logistics landscape.
Todd McFall, an Associate Teaching Professor of Economics at Wake Forest University, notes that Amazon, a company valued at $2.9 trillion, might target significant industries in the Triad that currently have agreements with established carriers like FedEx. However, he emphasizes the unique demands of supply chain operations.
“Those long-standing relationships have evolved so that both of the parties understand what’s at stake when something is being stored, or something is being delivered,” McFall explains. “These businesses have really specific ways in which they want things done, and Amazon would have to learn that. So, it’s going to be difficult for Amazon.”
Despite these challenges, McFall anticipates that Amazon will capture a portion of the local market from its competitors. He further predicts that Amazon will eventually become a key client at Piedmont Triad International Airport, alongside industry giants UPS and FedEx.
